ASUS has received Health Sciences Authority (HSA) approval for its AI-powered blood film analysis software, ASUS Blade, marking the company's first Class B In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) medical device cleared for clinical use in Singapore. The software automates the pre-classification of routine peripheral blood film cases, helping medical technologists prioritise complex and abnormal samples for review.

Developed in partnership with Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital under the National Healthcare Group, ASUS Blade was trained on real-world local clinical data and validated across five institutions in Singapore's public and private healthcare ecosystem. The software achieved 99 to 100 percent agreement in key diagnostic metrics against manual reference methods, covering white blood cell differentials, red blood cell morphology grading, and platelet estimation.

The approval positions ASUS Blade for deployment across Singapore's hospital and polyclinic laboratories, where it will serve as a triage tool rather than a replacement for human expertise. Final clinical interpretation and sign-out remain under the supervision of qualified medical professionals. The software also supports tele-hematology, enabling remote case reviews across distributed lab networks.

Why it matters for Singapore: HSA's clearance of ASUS Blade adds to a growing roster of AI-enabled medical devices entering Singapore's healthcare system, a key pillar of the Smart Nation initiative. By co-developing the tool with local public hospitals and validating it on Singapore's patient population, ASUS has demonstrated a repeatable pathway for AI diagnostic software to meet the city-state's rigorous regulatory standards while solving an immediate clinical need.
